front porch swingin'

Every since Gair and I spray painted those rocking chairs for his front porch, (read about them here) we have spent a lot of time sitting on the front porch.  I have been trying to talk him into getting a bench swing to sit on the front porch for extra seating.  I mentioned it to Mrs. Heady and next thing we knew she found on at the auction and bought it for Gair.  It was in really good shape and all we had to do was spray paint it black!

I forgot to take a picture of it before we started spray painting, so here is IN PROGRESS picture:
...and after we finished spray painting Gair hung it up on the porch!

I'm looking forward to spending a lot more time on the front porch now!

a nice find :)

I have been looking around for a desk to put my sewing machine on.  I decided to stop by Goodwill just to see if they had anything that fit the mold for what I had been looking for. . .and they did!  I found this cute little child's desk for $10.

The desk looked great white, but I wanted to make a project out of it so I decided to paint it chocolate brown.  Since I am not much of a painter, I was a little nervous as to how it would turn out.
In the priming phase. . .
The finished product!  As you can tell. . .I am not a professional painter.  There are a couple places that I probably need to touch up, but I think it looks pretty good for my first attempt at painting furniture.
The knobs that were on the desk before were just plain white [or should I say plain boring] so I went to Lowes and picked out these cute square black knobs to go with the chocolate brown.
I can't wait to put my sewing machine on my [like new] desk and get to work on that blanket I've been promising Tin :)

getting back into it

I haven't really been doing any sewing lately . . . although there are several little [BIG] projects that I need to be tackling.

Remember the blanket I made for Gair and also the blanket I made for my sister . . . well I am suppose to be making one for one of my bestest friends with all of her ZTA shirts from college, but I just haven't had the motivation to get it done . . . sorry Tin, because I know this was suppose to be a birthday present - which was in May {oopsie}.  Well, I am actually gonna start on it and hopefully get it done so she can have it before her next birthday (just joking).

Some other projects I want to work on I have found on an AWESOME blog that Taylor introduced me to. You can view this blog here and see some really awesome stuff that I hope to one day be able to do myself.    She is very creative and you should definitely check out all she has to offer.

I am also addicted to Pinterest.  If you haven't heard of it and you are like me and LOVE to get new ideas from the internet, it is definitely something you should check out.  Basically it is a place where you can store any ideas or {cute} things you found online, so you don't EVER forget about them.  Kinda like a notebook where you would cut out ideas you found in magazines, but online!  You can follow my pin boards here, and see all of the things that I have found online that interest me, and things that I want to do to my imaginary home that I will have one day :)

I hope everyone is having a Terrific Tuesday so far :)

the past week

This past weekend Gair and I went to a wedding shower for our friends, Jason and Mindy!  Gair is in their wedding which is on April 30 :)

This week the weather has been beautiful, so we have been doing a lot of sitting/relaxing on those wonderful rocking chairs we painted! :)

Yesterday was a very productive day...Gair and I went to Lowe's to buy some things...
1. a part to fix his sprinkler that someone ran over
2. new poles to put the flags on  that have been sitting in his closet for a year
3. ferns for his front porch (but they were all too small)
4. light bulbs

So, the sprinkler is now fixed and the flags look wonderful on the front porch (along with the rocking chairs).

Well...I have also been super busy this week making my little sissy's graduation present!  She loved the blanket that I made for Gair, so I thought it would be really sweet of me to make her one with all of her ADPi shirts from college.  When I told her I wanted to do that for her, she was so excited and got out all her shirts and I went and got them that night!  I am all done with her blanket...pictures to come soon! I don't want to spoil the surprise for her.  I can't believe it, but my little sissy graduates from college on May 6th, so I will post pictures after she gets it!

I am looking forward to a very fun Easter weekend with a LOT going on!

{like} new rocking chairs

Gair has been saying forever that he wanted to get some rocking chairs for his front porch, especially because of all the time that we like to spend outside!  Well, the other day one of his really good friends came by and had two rocking chairs in the back of his suburban!  He had gotten a few of them from a friend for his front porch, but his front porch on his house isn't finished yet.... So, the BEST part of this story is Russell is letting Gair babysit the two rocking chairs...which he really said Gair will be babysitting them probably FOREVER!  So, Gair and I spray painted the chairs black!  All that is left to do is buy some really cute chair cushions to go on them.  Like always, I forgot to take a picture of the chairs before they had any paint on them, but here are pictures of them being painted!

Three days later and my forearm is STILL sore from spray painting these chairs!

So, here they are! Minus the cushions that I am still looking around for...
